Progress:a bonus or burden?
Progress,is it good or bad?Many people take it for granted to turn on the air-conditioners whenever they feel hot,to go by car instead of walking and turn on the TV whenever they want.Everyone knows that these are the products of modern technology:they improve our standard of living.Without doubt,people are now enjoying their lives with these new inventions.However,something is in fact happening in secret.But what is that?
In human history,the quality of life of ordinary people has greatly improved,from monarchy in ancient times to the free society now.In China,education has promoted growth in economy,scientific research,and standard of living.That's something good!
The advancement in science is built on the development in education.From abacus in the old days to computer in this day and age;from a horse and cart to vehicles and trains nowadays;from viewing at a distance to landing on the moon,all these are the achievements of scientific development.We all know the scientific development has profound effects on us.For example,the invention of steam machine has greatly industrial development.Later it was even converted to dynamo.And other electrical appliances such as TV and computer appear one by one.The invention of electric lighting enables us to work at night.Sowe can all see that all these achievements can only be seen as bonuses to humans.Then how can one say that they are burdens?
The developments in science and education have raised our quality of life.People now just take this for granted.They turn on the air-conditioners whenever they feel hot.They buy a car just for the sake of convenience.If there's abundant work,they will switch on the lights and work overnight.People may think there's nothing special about all these but if this continues,it will bring quite a heavy burden to the environment as well as us human.The overuse of energy makes the carbon footprints increase and the over-development of industries also leads to acid rains.This destroys the natural environment.The release of pollutants results in different degrees of effects on the places on earth.All these together will cause a great burden to us as well as the environment.
In fact,the nature has endowed us many things,for example,the plants absorb carbon dioxide,the cycles in the nature can eliminate a certain degree of pollution,and the ecosystems can give rise to a lot of useful resources.These are all gifts from heaven.But if we don't appreciate and try to abuse it continually,the only result will have to borne by us human.
Finally,I think all kinds of development are beneficial to us all.Only when people abuse it will it become a burden.So if we don't want to bear such heavy burden in future,we should take action now.Treasure what we have and use them properly.THANK YOU.
